Imagine a world where the regulator of the UK automobile industry has banned commission payments to car salespeople – a policy designed to protect the consumer from buying something that they did not really want or could not afford.

There is now an alternative method of remuneration for the garage proprietor and staff comprising a fixed fee for the purchase of the car (to be agreed between the buyer and seller), together with the option of negotiating an on-going fee for the servicing of the car.
