Hedge fund managers believe this should mean less money is chasing the sort of trades they like doing, however it may mean less liquidity too.
The market is dominated by US players.
The hedge funds include the Quantum fund run by George Soros – arguably the most successful hedge fund of all time – and Paulson & Co run by John Paulson whose fund famously bet against sub-prime and made a fortune.
One half-British fund made the top 10 – the London and Geneva based Brevan Howard set up in 2003.
But while this is good news for wealthy hedge fund investors, the comment boards want to know if hedge funds are making this money, with The Guardian's readers providing the hotbed of comment.
