Fuel efficiency is the most sought after feature drivers consider when choosing a new car, according to new research.
The survey from switching site Gocompare.com found that 68% of motorists want to know whether they will get value for money when it comes to choosing a new vehicle.
A car’s reputation for reliability, was cited by 53% of respondents while safety came third with 42% of votes. A vehicle’s top speed and acceleration came tenth, with only 7% considering it a key decision making feature.
In addition, the top five desired essentials are ABS (anti-lock braking system), electronic keys or remote central locking, a CD player, parking sensors and seat belt warning lights.
Commenting on the research, Matt Oliver, Gocompare.com’s car insurance spokesman said, “Fuel efficiency, reliability and safety appear to be the most attractive attributes to drivers when choosing a new car – scoring much more highly than dashboard gadgets and the car’s top speed.
“Increasingly car manufactures are adding new technology such as integrated hands-free mobile phones and USB port to their vehicles to keep drivers connected. However, our survey suggests that new car buyers are more interested in mainstream driving features including ABS, central locking and parking sensors – essentially things which make driving easier and safer.”
