"The Bank of England Governor, Mervyn King, has signalled that interest rates may rise three times before the year is out, hitting 1.25pc by December."

Andy T comments: "Rates will rise, and mortgages will skyrocket, as the base rate more than doubles. The middle classes will take it. Savings will increase too, from 0.23% to 0.33%. And the middle classes will take it. Taxes will rise further and further, trapping millions into the top band, and the middle classes will take it. The quiet, stoic and yet tragic middle classes, weeping quietly into their blankets whilst they pretend it's all worth it, will take it. Oh, they'll take anything."
