Broker and platform Hargreaves Lansdown says it has seen a 17 fold increase in visits to its website using Ipad in the last year. It says that such demand has led the firm to launch a free app called HL Live, but we should excuse their little plug and consider the fact that it does show investors are accessing information about their investments and even buying and selling while on the move.
It says fund and share deals through existing mobile applications doubled over past year with the HL Live iPhone and Android apps received 160,000 downloads since August 2011.
These are Hargreaves Lansdown head of financial planning Danny Cox’s thoughts on the issue.
“Mobile access is becoming increasingly important to the DIY investor. When it comes to mobile access, the banking industry is a long way ahead of the investment industry, but we are now catching up. The demand for an iPad app from our clients has been huge.”
The new iPad app allows investors to deal funds and shares live, with free access to prices, indices, news and research. HL adds that 520,000 people will have free access to their accounts to view and trade online.
